Summer Intern Spotlight:
Zugeith Soto
Books Are Gems is thrilled to welcome Zugeith Soto, our talented summer intern from the University of Chicago!
Zugeith recently served as the guest reader at the DD’s DISCOUNTS fundraiser kickoff, where she delighted children and their parents by reading two bilingual books.
She is also introducing an exciting new program, The Gems Journal, where participants can upload pictures and stories about their adventures at Books Are Gems.
We are grateful for Zugeith’s creativity, enthusiasm, and commitment to literacy. She will be with us through September 12 before returning to college—so be sure to stop by and say hello!

Books Are Gems Launches “Legal Literacy Storytime” with Support from Texas Bar Foundation
and the El Paso Bar Foundation!
El Paso, TX -- Books Are Gems is proud to announce the launch of its newest initiative, Legal Literacy Storytime: Inspiring Kids with Justice, Rights, & Responsibility, made possible through a generous $6,500 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation and a $2,500 grant from the El Paso Bar Foundation!.
This innovative program introduces young readers to essential legal concepts—such as fairness, justice, and civic duty—through engaging Storytime sessions, bilingual books, and interactive educational materials. The project aligns with Books Are Gems’ mission to increase literacy rates in El Paso County by providing free books and educational experiences to children and families across our community.
